Pendleton Seven Springs Robe Wool Blanket, Twin

The craft of overshot weaving came to America with Scottish immigrants, who migrated to milder climates in the south, like the tiny town of Seven Springs, North Carolina. A squared pattern pays tribute to the intricate patterns of traditional coverlets, hand-loomed on a white warp in the four-harness overshot method. Weavers grew their own flax and cotton, and raised sheep for wool which was hand-carded, spun, and colored with natural dyes. Today, their Appalachian artistry is preserved in museums.
